CVM’s Venous Center treats varicose veins with a variety of varicose vein therapies. CVM houses a team of varicose vein treatment specialists who perform treatments such as radiofrequency ablation, non-thermal sclerosant, non-thermal adhesive ablation, sclerotherapy, endovenous laser treatment and stab phlebectomy.
Vein therapy may be necessary for venous disease; a condition that occurs when the veins in the legs become diseased or abnormal. Venous disease can include spider veins, varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency. Varicose veins are enlarged veins in the legs and can lead to a more serious condition, chronic venous insufficiency, if untreated. Chronic venous insufficiency is the pooling of the blood in the lower legs which causes ankle swelling, fatigue, restless legs and leg pain.
Radiofrequency Ablation is a heat-based varicose veins treatment. RFA collapses the vein walls to naturally redirect blood to the healthy veins. Eventually, the treated vein turns to scar tissue and is absorbed by the body.
Non-Thermal Sclerosant Vein Procedure is a treatment that injects the affected veins with a foam solution. The foam fills and treats the desired section, then the diseased vein collapses and deactivates the foam.
Non-Thermal Adhesive Vein Ablation Procedure treats varicose veins by inserting a small amount of medical adhesive into the diseased vein. The adhesive seals the vein and reroutes the blood to healthy veins.
Sclerotherapy is used to eliminate painful varicose veins and is considered the treatment of choice for small varicose veins. With sclerotherapy, your vein doctor injects a solution directly into the vein to irritate the lining of the blood vessel and collapse it to seal it closed. This forces blood to reroute through healthy veins.
Endovenous Laser Treatment uses laser energy emitted through a thin fiber that is inserted into the damaged vein. The energy closes the vein, sealing it shut and rerouting the blood to healthy veins.
Stab Phlebectomy removes large protruding veins on the surface of the legs. Tiny incisions are made over the varicose veins and then the vein is removed in specific sections. Stab Phlebectomy is not to be mistaken for the traditional “vein stripping.” Typically, this treatment is performed with Radiofrequency Ablation or an Endovenous Laser procedure.
