WHAT IS RADIOFREQUENCY ABLATION (RFA)?

Radiofrequency Ablation is utilized for the treatment of varicose veins utilizing heat. The heat process causes the vein walls to collapse and seal the vein closed. A catheter is inserted below the knee and positioned in the vein. The procedure is minimally invasive and requires no general anesthesia. Only local anesthetic is used to numb the area where the physician is working. Blood flow is then naturally redirected to healthy veins as the recovery process begins. The treated vein becomes scar tissue and is eventually absorbed by the body. Patients are encouraged to walk immediately after the procedure and can resume normal activities the same day.
